5 Foods That Boost Your Immune System

Fueling your body with the right foods can help you build a strong immune system. Having a strong immune system can prevent you from contracting colds, flus and other infections.

Here at Catered Fit we strive to provide our members with healthy meals, using only the best high quality ingredients. We believe that eating the right foods is essential to maintaining a healthy mind, body and spirit, which is why we incorporate many superfoods into our meals!

Using ingredients that are good for your immune system is on top of our list and we have a wide variety of meals that are perfect for building a strong and healthy immune system.

If building a strong immune system is one of your priorities for the new year, you should consider adding the following foods and spices to your diet.

Citrus fruits

To prevent yourself from catching a cold or flu, taking vitamin C on a regular basis is a good habit to start in the new year. Vitamin C is said to increase the production of white blood cells, the cells that help fight infection. Almost all citrus fruits are high in vitamin C.

There are a variety of citrus fruits to choose from, so it can be easy to add any of these into your diet:

  • Grapefruit
  • Oranges
  • Clementines
  • Tangerines
  • Lemons
  • Limes

It’s important to note that our bodies do not create or store vitamin C, so it’s vital to add it to your diet on a regular basis to ensure that you are meeting the recommended amount for continued health.

We provide our members with a fresh seasonal fruit cup with their breakfast meals. Oranges, grapefruit and tangerines are some of our favorite citrus fruits to add to our fruit cups!

Ginger

Ginger is a superfood that is antibacterial which helps support the immune system. Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, it can reduce inflammation within the body. It’s also great for soothing an upset stomach and can prevent nausea. This root is used in a variety of dishes along with juices making it an easy ingredient to slip into every meal.

Ginger is a common ingredient that we use in our meals and cold-pressed juices. Some of our most popular ginger dishes and juices are the Sesame Ginger Mahi Mahi Salad, Gingered Shrimp & Edamame Lo Mein and our GingerSnap cold-pressed juice.

Turmeric

Turmeric is a bright yellow root grounded down to a powder and used as a spice. It’s a common ingredient in many Indian dishes. This spice has been used for its anti-inflammatory properties which helps bolster your immune system by increasing the immunomodulating capacity of the body.

We use turmeric quite frequently in our dishes. One of our favorite meals is the Ancient Grains & Turmeric Chicken Bowl. We also make a delicious golden turmeric tea which can be found in our coffee and tea addon.

Spinach

Spinach is an excellent food that can help build a strong immune system. Not only is it high in vitamin C but it’s also packed with numerous antioxidants and beta carotene, which may both increase the infection-fighting ability of our immune systems.

Sauteed spinach is a common side that we offer our members. It’s delicious, healthy and certainly one of the best leafy greens to add to your diet. If you prefer to drink your greens, our Lean & Green, Green Mile or Greenlands cold-pressed juice is the perfect option for you!

Garlic

Garlic is found in almost every cuisine in the world. It adds flavor to food and it’s definitely a must-have for your health! Over several decades it’s been used and recognized for fighting infections. Its immune-boosting properties seem to come from a heavy concentration of sulfur-containing compounds, such as allicin.

We use garlic in almost every single one of our dishes because not only does it make the food taste better, we also see the value of healthy benefits it provides for our members!

The secret to living a long healthy life is eating the right foods that will help you maintain and build a strong immune system. Taking care of your health is one of the best things that you can do for yourself, and the best way to do that is to fuel your body with the nutrients and vitamins it needs.
