Adam Friden’s October 2017 CEO Note

Adam and CW

Hello Catered Fit Fam,

My name is Adam Friden, proud founder and CEO of Catered Fit. Thank you for joining me in our debut edition of the “CEO Corner”. Let me start by sharing a little about myself, my passions and some exciting Catered Fit news.

Seven years ago we started Catered Fit and set out to prove that we could all eat healthy without sacrificing taste or convenience. Most thought we were crazy but today, we have kitchens in Florida and California, nearly 200 proud staff members, and we cook and deliver over 30,000 meals per week.

At the end of 2016 we invested heavily in technology, some of which gives members the ability to select meals and manage deliveries from their smartphones. Plus, it gave me and several other key leaders an opportunity to take some (much needed) time-off. So last month, for the first time since opening our doors in August of 2010, I embarked on a journey throughout Europe and had two amazing things happen.

First, I had an opportunity to study the Blue Zones. If you don’t know what the Blue Zones are, they are five geographical places around the world where the average lifespan is 90 – 100 years old. I started thinking, what are the commonalities of people in the world’s five Blue Zones? In all five, diet is primarily plant based, exercise is daily, stress is low, and family and friends are most important. What else? They are eating legumes, which are low in fat and packed with fiber and (my favorite) they are drinking red wine. In Sardinia, 4-8 ounces of flavonoid-rich cannonau red wine is consumed daily and done so strictly in a family or group setting. I am now proud to say, the same practice is carried out here at Catered Fit! Each day at 3:00 o’clock, our entire office freezes. We stop work to gather around and have our daily Sangria Sit-Down. (check it out on instagram if you don’t believe me!) We talk about our lives, not our jobs. For 30 minutes we laugh and joke (often at each other’s expense), share wisdom, and maybe even break out into song, all while sipping on house-made sangria.

The second amazing thing that happened, I got engaged to my soul mate. A woman who shares my passion for health and wellness and was the catalyst for my recent transformation into veganism. I am more excited than ever to embark on this journey with a great partner in life.

I would love to hear what steps you are taking to live long and healthy lives, aside from making very wise food decisions. Send in your comments or questions and next time I will include an #AskAdam section! Until next month amigos, health and happiness!

Health is Wealth
