What Is the Paleo Diet?

You may have heard about it on TV or read Health magazines that make reference to the famous Paleo diet. But, what is it? The Paleolithic diet or caveman diet is all about eating natural foods to achieve great health and a perfect physique.

This is not a new fad either, humans grew and evolved for more than 2 million years with the food found in nature: game meat, fish, vegetables, wild fruits, eggs and nuts. The human race was thriving on this diet high in animal fat and proteins and low in carbohydrates. But with the industrial revolution things changed, we started introducing unnatural foods to our bodies.

The Paleo diet focuses on eating real, natural food that’s widely available with little or any processing. Basically Paleo is focused on eating naturally.

How does it work?

The body’s ideal source of energy is fats. It’s a much slower burning fuel and more efficient for your body to use. However, due to the abundance of carbohydrates people consume on a daily basis their bodies burn the carbohydrates instead of the fat. So, when people consume more carbohydrates than are needed for energy, the body stores the rest as fat.The Paleo Diet changes a lot of this by removing most carbohydrates from your diet. When this happens, the body is forced to use the fat in your body for energy. That’s good! This is how it works.
